In studio we usually set up a series of fun activities for the kids who enter into the spirit of it very quickly, having fun is a great way to relax the kids and get some really great photographs. During the session we take a variety of different photographs of your kids including close ups and full lengths, fun active shots as well as gentle smiling at the camera. Most parents want fun kids photography however grandparents want to see full face images so the mix we do covers most needs.

Family Studio Photography

During the studio family photo session we take a variety of different photographs of your family as a group and then the kids either individually or as a group, plus mum and dad as a couple if you wish. We photograph close ups and full lengths, fun active shots as well as gentle smiling at the camera during your family portrait session.  We design the session to suit your tastes and family style. When designing your family photography shoot we discuss clothing, hair and make up with you. Clothing is especially important to your family portrait looking great and creating to look and style you want.

FAMILY Beach Portraits

At the beach we photograph the family group in mix of different placements to give you several lovely groupings to choose from. We also photograph the children as a group or individually if you wish. Plus the parents as a couple because they always seem to miss out.

Extended or mass families groups are often photographed at the beach. Often families will organize a mass family shoot for parents or grandparents wedding anniversaries or special birthdays. 50th and 60th birthdays are very popular beach portrait occasions. When photographing an extended or mass family group, with time & weather permitting we try to also photograph the separate families etc. This is a great chance to have the individual families photographed so that they will have something for them selves or the other set of grandparents etc.

When we photograph a family on the beach we not only do a variety of different shots of the family group, walking, sitting and playing etc. We also photograph the kids together and each child individually if you wish plus some of mum and dad as a couple because usually they haven’t been photographed professionally since their wedding day. For the kids photos on the beach we want them to be natural and have fun as well as doing some tight happy shots that grandma will love. All of this is part of an About Faces Photography beach family or children’s portrait session. Being photographed at the beach is all about living in this great part of Australia.

Our beach portrait sessions are extremely popular with many families from Wollongong area as well as many families traveling to us from Campbelltown, Mittagong, Bowral, Nowra, Berry, Robertson, Gerringong, Kiama, southern Sydney and even overseas clients who email us to book a session for when they are in the Illawarra.

A beach photo shoot is great fun. At the beach we have photographed many different subjects for example a man with his dog, a woman with her horse, loving couples strolling at sun set, single children, sibling groups, families and extended families. Many families want to include their pet or pets in the family portrait. You can add horses, dogs and surfboards, buckets & spades or flocks of seagulls.

Lighting is the secret to About Faces Photography’s beautiful beach portraits. As with all other aspects of our photography lighting is managed to give the best possible result. If the weather is not conducive to great photography we will postpone your session to ensure you get great images. Weather considerations may be poor light, strong winds or rain.

Clothing for your beach portraits

Clothing is another important aspect of your beach photo shoot. After you have made your booking we take time to discuss your style and advise you on appropriate ways of conveying this to your clothing choices to give you a great look without compromising the final aesthetics of your finished portrait. Therefore when you are making your beach portrait session booking allow some extra time to discuss clothing with us as well. Always bring a warm jacket to slip on incase we need to wait a while for lighting conditions etc. especially for the children.

Hair and/or make up for a beach session.

For men- if you have a ruddy complexion from being out doors a lot but have the paler area where you would normally wear sun glasses it is best to ask you lady to apply a little foundation to blend the areas together. Haircuts should be done at least a week prior to your session so that any previously hidden forehead or neck area can colour up a little. A good spray of hairspray will help keep your hair in place if the wind is up and you don’t like the wind swept look.

For women - your make up should be a normal daytime going out make up and it should also be natural daytime look. If you have hair that may blow across your face it is a good idea to bring a hair slide or clasp and use a really good amount of hair spray.

For children – Hair is the same as the adults, for long hair its great to have a half up half down style, that way it will help keep the hair off their face but allows you to see some of the length.

Many families have wonderful homes or properties that are ideal to photograph both children and all the family in and around. Kids swinging on stable doors or clambering up the wood heap, astride their quad bikes or playing in they’re beautifully decorated bedrooms. Kids in our bush/garden

For fun outdoor photographs of your kids we offer an on-site a bush setting, a rustic slab and shingle barn, old tricycles, wagon wheels and a cute cottage garden when in season.

During the photography shoot we do a lovely mix for different poses of the child or children including close ups and full lengths, active and fun plus softer and more controlled poses.

Other out door options are off site where we use the beautiful beaches of Bulli, Wollongong area as well as the urban streets-capes and historic train stations. Environmental photo shoots are very popular with both parents and kids.

Family photography in our bush setting is a relaxed mix of different set ups of the family, some enjoying and interacting with each other and then some smiling for the camera.
