About Faces Photography is located in “The Old Chapel” 318 Princes Highway Bulli NSW. Bulli is a northern beach side suburb of Wollongong. Designing you portrait session.

When you make a booking with About Faces Photography we take the time to discuss your style and taste, then design your photography session to suit you. We book the session at a time that gets the best possible results for you, considering weather and lighting conditions for outdoor photography. We advise you to consider sleep times for your baby or young children as a family or children’s photography session needs happy and well-rested little ones to run smoothly. Newborn babies are usually very easy to settle at most times of day. We discuss and advise you on the best colours and clothing to wear for the style of photography you have booked and we discuss where in your home your portraits may hang. We work with you to make those portraits harmonize with your style and decor.

There are many different levels of quality in professional photographic papers, canvases, and art papers. Beach portraits are very popular for child and family portraits, kids, engagement photography, wedding photography and big family reunion photographs.

Location photography.

We offer environmental portraits in a variety of locations including garden settings, bush portraits, at your home or outdoor on your property life-style portraits, plus many interesting urban sites for creative photography.

Studio portraits.

Families who have their photography taken in our studio camera room will note that, in the quest to give you the best possible results our camera room walls are painted grey and our curtains are also grey which is the neutral colour used to prevent unwanted colour reflections. As well as the room colour our studio lighting system is also colour managed to give as close as possible to correctly (daylight) balanced light colour temperature. Correct light temperature is another vital step to colour management. This attention to detail is yet another step to the best possible colour results and yet another important reason in why About Faces Photography is recognized as being a leader in the photographic industry.

New Born.

For your tiny newborn baby the camera room is not only heated or cooled for baby; About Faces take it one step further than most and have special heat pads for baby’s comfort in the colder months. It’s small things that can define a moment and make it just right.

Purchasing your portraits.

At your photographic session we ask you to make a return time and date for your purchasing appointment. At the purchasing appointment you will view your photographic proofs on a wide screen TV, choose the images you wish to purchase, discuss the different presentation and finishing options including retouching and then place your order. This is another vital part of our high standard of professional service. We will assist you to choose the best of the images advising on technical aspects where necessary to help you and then show you the best method of presenting the finished portraits. From glorious Giclee art printing, trendy canvas wraps to loose or beautifully framed portraits we will assist you to have the best for your favorite images. It is a really good idea not to bring along toddlers or children as the kids can get bored very quickly and make it difficult for you to concentrate; again this small tip gained from years of experience has made the world of difference for some of our parents.

Both Janet and Lindsay as About Faces Photography are sponsors of the KidzWish Foundation. KidzWish Foundation works to assist disabled children in the Wollongong, Illawarra area. Each year KidzWish present a huge entertainment and Christmas party spectacular, with wonderful gifts from Santa to over 3000 kids with special needs. Fundraising also provides family holidays, wheel chairs, prosthetics, physiotherapy, car conversions for wheelchairs and so on. About Faces Photography, like many other caring businesses in Wollongong lend their support to help these special kids.

Our Photographers.

Janet & Lindsay Merritt are the owners of About Faces Photography. They are both highly respected industry leaders and are often sought out by the media to present quotes, information and articles on photography, colour management and business skills to leading photographic magazines, universities, and are also prominent lecturers to professional photography groups. They are both very popular National and International professional photography judges. Lindsay is recognized as a highly respected colour management expert by other professional’s worldwide.

Lindsay is a past Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year and Australian Professional Photographer of the Year.

He is an Australian Master Photographer and has won awards for his images around the world. He has won these awards with a wide variety of powerful creative images including his glorious wedding photography, sensitive baby photography, creative children’s and his masterful family photography. Lindsay has traveled overseas extensively and photographed his subjects in many and varied locations. Lindsay has lectured at San Francisco’s Golden Gate School of Professional Photography and delivered Colour Management Workshops in the United Kingdom.

Janet is a past NSW Portrait Photographer of the Year and NSW Professional Photographer of the Year. She is a recipient of the Henry Talbot Award for services to the Photographic industry and a triple Australian Master Photographer. Janet has also won many awards for her fine art photography, character portraits, delicate baby photos, fun and natural children’s photography and edgy wedding photography. Janet is recognized as the photographer who began the now everyday trend of photographing the finer details of a wedding or portrait shoot. When her award winning image of the fine detail of the lace in a brides gown off set by the brides goose bumped flesh was published photographers realized that they had missed so many small but important details of a wedding day that the new insight of photographic style took off.
